Saudi Arabia Requests to Purchase 48 F-35 Fighters from Trump
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Reuters reported exclusively that the Trump management is considering saudi Arabia’s request to buy up to 48 F-35 fighter jets.
Two sources familiar with the matter said this multi-billion-dollar deal has cleared a major hurdle at the U.S.Department of Defense ahead of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit.
The Reuters report added that this sale would represent a meaningful policy shift with the potential to alter the military balance in the Middle East. It also challenges Washington’s definition of maintaining Israel’s qualitative military edge.
An informed individual and a U.S. official told Reuters that Saudi Arabia directly approached President Donald Trump earlier this year seeking to acquire F-35s, expressing longstanding interest in these advanced jets manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
Both sources involved in negotiations confirmed that the Pentagon is now reviewing a possible sale of 48 units, though details on quantities and current status had not been previously disclosed.
The U.S.officials described the arms deal as progressing but stressed no final decision has been made yet. Several further steps remain, including additional government approvals, signature by President Trump, and notifying Congress before any confirmation can occur.
