Iran and Russia Parliamentary Group Stresses Need to Prioritize Private Sector Trade Opportunities

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, a meeting of the Iran-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group was held today at the Economic Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, attended by Hadi Tizhoush, head of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce, and Roshanali Yekta, its deputy head.
Ebrahim Rezaei, head of the parliamentary group, highlighted the vast trade opportunities between Iran and Russia, stressing the need to prioritize key issues using the research capacities of the Parliament Research Center and the Chamber of Commerce. He noted that current trade volumes remain insufficient and require further facilitation for the private sector.
Shamseddin Hosseini emphasized resolving banking challenges between the two countries and called for a clear definition of existing capacities and obstacles in bilateral trade.
Hadi Tizhoush described Russia as a ready market for agricultural exports, pointing out Iran’s untapped potential due to infrastructure gaps. He noted that trade is currently conducted in euros and rubles, which could transform economic relations. Tizhoush also urged the government to avoid competing with the private sector, instead focusing on policy-making to enable real private-sector trade, particularly under Iran’s Eurasian Economic Union membership.
Other members of the parliamentary group also raised concerns and proposals regarding trade with Russia.
