Iran’s Defense Ministry Condemns EU Council’s Move Against IRGC as ‘Vindictive and Desperate’

Iran’s Defense Ministry has strongly condemned the European Union Council’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a so-called terrorist organization, calling it a ‘vindictive, hasty, and desperate’ response to repeated failures against Iran’s national resolve.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iran‘s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics issued a statement sharply criticizing the European Union Council’s decision to list the IRGC as a terrorist entity. The ministry described the move as legally contradictory and politically motivated, asserting that the IRGC is a sovereign institution under Iran’s constitution and a key force in combating terrorism globally, including in Europe.

The statement highlighted that the EU’s action violates fundamental principles of international law, including the prohibition of interference in internal affairs of states under Article 2(7) of the UN Charter. It argued that sovereignty is indivisible under international law and cannot be partially criminalized.

The Defense Ministry further criticized the EU Council as an institution with ‘minimal political legitimacy’ that has undermined its functional credibility through this decision while committing ‘widespread violations of Iranian human rights.’ The move follows the EU foreign ministers’ approval on Thursday to add the IRGC to their so-called terrorist list.
