Donbass Emerges as Focal Point of Dispute in Trilateral Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Donbass region, encompassing Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, has emerged as the primary flashpoint in trilateral discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict. This area, once Ukraine’s industrial core, holds significant historical and strategic value for Russia, which has used it as both a symbolic claim and a geopolitical pressure tool.
The crisis in Donbass began in 2014 with Russia’s support for separatist groups and escalated into full-scale war in February 2022. Despite Russia’s military superiority, complete control of the region has remained elusive. For Ukraine, losing Donbass would severely weaken both its defensive capabilities and economic stability.
Political negotiations to resolve the crisis have so far failed to yield concrete results, with positions between the two sides remaining far apart. The industrial significance of Donbass, which was crucial to Ukraine’s economy before the war, adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing diplomatic efforts.
