Iraqi Analyst Asserts US Fear of War with Iran Drives Muscat Negotiations

An Iraqi political analyst claims the United States is deeply fearful of the consequences of a full-scale conflict with Iran, prompting Washington to pursue diplomatic talks in Muscat. The analyst suggests these US actions are primarily psychological warfare aimed at extracting concessions from Tehran on critical files, notably its nuclear program.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Adnan Abdullah Al-Tamimi, an analyst specializing in Iraqi political affairs, stated that the United States harbors significant apprehension regarding a comprehensive war with Iran. He asserted that the dire ramifications of such a conflict are the primary motivation behind the US adopting a negotiation track in Muscat.

Al-Tamimi elaborated that the maneuvers undertaken by the United States are fundamentally designed as psychological operations intended to exert pressure on Iran, compelling the Islamic Republic to yield ground on vital issues, including the ongoing nuclear dossier.

The analyst underscored that Washington is acutely aware of the substantial costs associated with an all-encompassing war against Iran. He warned of the inherent risk that such hostilities could rapidly spiral out of control, potentially escalating into a regional or even international confrontation given the deeply interwoven interests across the area. This realization, he argued, is why the US has pivoted toward negotiations held in Muscat.

Furthermore, Al-Tamimi confirmed that the American presence in the Muscat talks signals an acknowledgment of the reality that war would not serve US interests. He emphasized that Iran is not to be underestimated and may have prepared significant strategic surprises for any potential adversary.
