Hungary Halts Diesel Exports to Ukraine Amid Oil Transit Dispute

Hungary has suspended its diesel fuel exports to Ukraine in response to Kyiv’s decision to halt oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline. Budapest insists that diesel shipments will only resume once Russian oil transit to Hungary is reinstated.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hungary has ceased its supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine, as announced by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó on Wednesday. This decision comes as a direct response to Kyiv’s move to stop oil transfers via the Druzhba pipeline.

Szijjártó emphasized that the resumption of diesel fuel exports to Ukraine is contingent upon the recommencement of Russian oil transit through the pipeline to Hungary. He stated that until this condition is met, Hungary will not resume its diesel shipments.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov had described Ukraine’s actions as “energy blackmail against Hungary.” Peskov explained that discussions regarding oil supplies to Hungary were ongoing at the corporate level between the two countries, with Moscow in contact with its buyers. However, he noted that the situation had become complicated due to Ukraine’s stance.

Peskov also suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s attacks against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán were a result of Budapest’s opposition to Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
