France Summons US Ambassador Over Remarks on Far-Right Activist’s Death

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Sunday that U.S. Ambassador to Paris Charles Kuehner would be summoned. The reason for this action by Paris is attributed to the U.S. ambassador’s comments regarding the death of a French far-right activist earlier this month, which have been perceived as interference in France‘s internal affairs.
Quentin Drancourt, 23, died on February 12, two days after sustaining severe head injuries in a clash in the city of Lyon. The Trump administration had described the incident as a result of left-wing violence.
Jean-Noël Barrot stated in an interview with France Inter radio, “We are summoning the U.S. ambassador to France because the embassy published a comment regarding this event, which pertains to our national community. We reject any interference in this event.”
Quentin Drancourt, a French far-right activist, was beaten to the brink of death during a confrontation with far-left activists last Thursday and died two days later.
