Sudanese Army Defeats Rapid Support Forces in El Geneina, Darfur

The Sudanese army has achieved a decisive victory over the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Geneina, located in North Darfur, reportedly seizing significant military equipment and inflicting heavy casualties on the paramilitary group.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, new clashes have erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of El Geneina, North Darfur, a key stronghold for the army in the region. The joint force of armed movements supporting the Sudanese army announced a decisive victory on the western axis and southeastern areas of El Geneina, stating that over three groups of RSF forces were destroyed and forced to flee the battlefield. The army reportedly captured 20 combat vehicles with all their equipment, while another 17 vehicles were destroyed, resulting in substantial human and equipment losses for the RSF. Remnants of the paramilitary fighters fled, abandoning their dead and equipment.

Abubakr Ahmed Imam, spokesperson for the popular resistance in North Darfur, stated that RSF forces, backed by the Sudanese Liberation Movement led by Al Tahir Hajar, had launched a wide-scale attack on El Geneina, which was repelled by the defending forces. He added that popular forces conducted a surprise operation against enemy positions, leading to the defeat and flight of the paramilitary fighters, leaving behind burnt vehicles and heavy casualties. A number of RSF elements were also taken prisoner.

In a related development, Chad abruptly closed the Adre border crossing on Sunday, a crucial route for international humanitarian aid into Darfur.
