US Southern Command Chief Meets with Cuban Military Leaders

General Laura Richardson, head of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), held a brief meeting with Cuban military officials, including Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, on the sidelines of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced that General Laura Richardson, commander of SOUTHCOM, met with a Cuban military delegation led by General Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, First Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Chief of the General Staff of the Cuban Armed Forces. The meeting took place on Friday on the periphery of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.

SOUTHCOM stated that General Richardson engaged in a concise discussion with the Cuban delegation regarding operational security matters. The U.S. military confirmed the meeting, noting that General Richardson convened with several senior Cuban military commanders.

The U.S. military’s statement indicated that the encounter was intended for an exchange of views and to provide brief explanations on issues pertinent to operational security between the two sides.
