Human Rights Groups Sue US Over Conditions at Texas Migrant Detention Center

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, human rights organizations have filed a lawsuit in a court in El Paso, Texas, reporting human rights violations at the city’s largest migrant detention center. Three individuals have lost their lives at this facility since its opening nine months ago.
The American Civil Liberties Union, along with other human rights organizations, filed the complaint on behalf of four individuals currently detained at the East Montana camp. The lawsuit names U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security as defendants.
These organizations stated that the lawsuit aims to improve conditions for the over 2,700 individuals currently in detention. They report inhumane treatment at the center, including detainees being held in windowless cells, subjected to physical abuse by guards, and exposed to diseases such as measles and tuberculosis.
Coroners in El Paso ruled the death of a Cuban migrant at the East Montana camp on January 3rd as a homicide, citing asphyxiation due to neck compression.
