US House Restricts Trump’s War Powers Against Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a resolution significantly curbing President Donald Trump’s authority for military action against Iran, marking a major step by Congress to assert its war-making powers.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. House of Representatives has taken a significant and unprecedented step to curb the war-mongering policies of President Donald Trump, approving a resolution that severely limits the president’s powers to engage in or continue military action against Iran. Reuters reported that the resolution passed with a majority vote.

This “War Powers” resolution, introduced by Democratic representatives with the aim of preventing any unilateral military confrontation with Tehran without explicit authorization from Congress, was ultimately approved with 215 votes in favor and 208 votes against.

A noteworthy aspect of this vote was the fracturing of the ruling party’s unified front, as four Republican representatives broke ranks with the White House to join the Democrats and vote in favor of the measure.

However, despite the symbolic and political victory for the Democrats in the general assembly of the House, Trump still retains the constitutional right to veto this resolution. His opponents would need to secure a two-thirds majority vote from the entire Congress in subsequent stages to override a presidential veto.

The U.S. Senate had previously voted on this resolution on a Tuesday, after having failed to pass measures limiting Trump’s war powers against Iran on seven prior occasions.
