CIA Director John Ratcliffe Makes Unannounced Visit to Moscow

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, John Ratcliffe, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), embarked on an unannounced and unprecedented visit to Moscow, arriving in the Russian capital on Tuesday. His journey was made on a C-17A military aircraft, departing from Joint Base Andrews near Washington D.C. The flight initially made a stop in Riga, the capital of Latvia, before continuing its route to Moscow.

Data from the flight tracking website Flightradar24 indicates that the aircraft remained in Moscow for approximately eight hours before departing. Both The New York Times and The Washington Post, citing the same data and published images and videos, reported sightings of a convoy of vehicles with diplomatic plates moving through the Russian capital.

Washington has not officially disclosed the purpose or details of this trip. The CIA, the Pentagon, and the U.S. Air Force have all declined to comment on the matter. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, confirmed on Tuesday that the visit was conducted within the framework of coordination between security agencies.

The clandestine nature of this visit has fueled various speculations, prominently featuring discussions concerning the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Ratcliffe was appointed to the U.S. team responsible for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict last year.

The Washington Post reported that Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, exploiting perceived gaps in Ukraine’s air defense systems. The two newspapers also emphasized the CIA’s involvement in communications and negotiations related to American citizens detained in Russian prisons. Among them is 74-year-old Steven Hubbard, who has been held since April 2022, accused of joining Ukrainian forces, and was sentenced to six years and ten months imprisonment.
