Pakistan Gears Up for Massive Public Gathering to Honor Martyred Leader

Pakistan is set to host a monumental public gathering, termed the ‘Gathering of Minar-e-Pakistan,’ to pay tribute to the late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The event follows widespread mourning and solidarity across the nation after his martyrdom.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan is witnessing an unprecedented wave of public sorrow, anger, and solidarity in the wake of the martyrdom of Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. This outpouring of emotion has swept through the country, from major cities to remote regions, drawing millions to honor a figure many Muslims consider the ‘Father of the Islamic Ummah.’

Hours after the news of the Islamic leader’s martyrdom broke, thousands gathered in various Pakistani cities, holding mourning ceremonies in streets, mosques, husseiniyas, and religious centers. In some cities, protest gatherings were held outside American representation and affiliated centers, resulting in the martyrdom of over 35 individuals by American security forces stationed at these facilities in Pakistan.

The martyrdom of the Revolution’s leader ignited widespread public anger across Pakistan, transforming memorial services into massive assemblies celebrating the struggles and political and intellectual legacy of the martyred leader of the Islamic world. In the days following this event, cities including Parachinar, Karachi, Gilgit, Baltistan, Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi hosted extensive mourning ceremonies, public marches, and solidarity gatherings with the Iranian nation. During these events, religious, political, and social figures in Pakistan emphasized the martyred leader’s pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and confronting global hegemony, hailing him as one of the most influential contemporary leaders of the Muslim world.

The martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei has fostered a unique wave of unity and solidarity among various Shia movements, parties, and groups in Pakistan. In the days after the incident, Shia religious and political organizations, which had been holding their programs separately for years, jointly organized dozens of memorial events and programs for the ‘Father of the Ummah.’

One of the most significant of these events, hosted by the Jamia-tul-Montazar Seminary in Pakistan and attended by representatives from all Shia parties, groups, and organizations, stressed the necessity of maintaining unity and continuing the path of the martyred leader. Participants also announced plans for a large and historic public gathering at ‘Minar-e-Pakistan’ in Lahore on Saturday, June 14th.

The selection of Minar-e-Pakistan for this ceremony holds particular significance, as the site symbolizes Pakistan’s national identity and has been the venue for many of the country’s historical and pivotal gatherings. Organizers believe holding the memorial ceremony for the martyred leader at such a location will send a clear message of unity, solidarity, and the extensive presence of Pakistani Muslims in support of the Islamic Ummah’s causes.

The first major Shia gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan was held in 1987 during the life of the late Shia leader of Pakistan, Martyr Allama Syed Arif Hussain Al-Hussaini, with the aim of showcasing the unity, cohesion, and social power of Pakistan’s Shias. Decades later, the commemoration ceremony for Ayatollah Khamenei is considered the second comprehensive Shia gathering at this historic site.

Speaking at a press conference, Allama Syed Jawad Naqvi, head of the Urooh-ul-Wusqa Seminary, expressed confidence in the event’s success, stating, ‘The Gathering of Minar-e-Pakistan’ will not only be a grand symbol of the unity of the Islamic Ummah and national solidarity but will also present a positive, peace-loving, and responsible image of Pakistan to the world.

Referring to the martyred leader’s character, he added, ‘The path of the Martyred leader of the Ummah is the path of the unity of the Islamic Ummah, steadfastness, and support for the oppressed, and the people of Pakistan consider honoring his services and sacrifices a moral, human, and national duty.’ Allama Jawad Naqvi also commented on Pakistan’s current challenges, including insecurity, terrorism, and internal and external problems, asserting that Pakistan’s Shias and all patriotic forces will continue to play their constructive role in strengthening peace, unity, stability, and national progress.

He expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government, particularly the Punjab government, for granting permission for the ceremony, emphasizing that the grand ‘Martyr of the Ummah’ gathering will be conducted in full compliance with all government-stipulated rules and regulations. Meanwhile, Allama Muhammad Amin Shaheedi announced that invitations have been extended to various Shia and Sunni groups and parties, including Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami. Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi also confirmed that all preparations for the gathering have been completed, anticipating hundreds of thousands of attendees to pay their respects to the ‘Martyr of the Ummah.’

Ahead of the grand ‘Martyr of the Ummah’ gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan, organizers and committee members visited the venue to personally review the latest executive arrangements. During the visit, the seating arrangements for participants, security measures, welfare facilities, speaker platforms, and other related aspects of the ceremony were examined. Organizers expressed satisfaction with the preparation progress, stating that all necessary arrangements for the magnificent public gathering are being finalized. They hope this event, with the extensive participation of various segments of society and religious and political figures, will become one of the largest gatherings in the history of Pakistan’s Shias.
