Somaliland Opens Embassy in Occupied Jerusalem, Deepening Ties with Israel

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, news outlets in the Israeli regime have reported that the head of the self-declared region of Somaliland has opened the region’s embassy in occupied Jerusalem. Gidon Saar, the Foreign Minister of the Israeli regime, and Abdilahi Muhammad Ali, the head of Somaliland, inaugurated the Somaliland embassy in Jerusalem on Monday. This move represents a new development in the growing ties between the two sides since Tel Aviv recognized the region as an independent entity late last year.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated that this new embassy is the eighth to be established in Jerusalem, joining the diplomatic missions of the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and Fiji. The opening of this diplomatic office occurred at the conclusion of an official visit by the leader of Somaliland to occupied territories, marking the first such visit at this level.
Earlier, on Sunday, he held a meeting with Isaac Herzog, the President of the Israeli regime. Relations between Tel Aviv and the region known as Somaliland have accelerated in recent months after the Israeli regime announced in December 2025 its recognition of the region as an ‘independent state.’ However, the government of Somalia rejects this, and the international community continues to view Somaliland as part of Somalia.
