Israel Cuts Ties With EU Foreign Policy Chief Over Apartheid Remarks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israel‘s Foreign Ministry has announced it is cutting ties with Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The move by Tel Aviv follows remarks made by Borrell, who compared the Israeli regime to an apartheid state. This stance by the EU’s top diplomat has drawn a sharp response from Israel.
Kaya Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, also responded to the position taken by Israel’s Foreign Minister, G Gideon Saar, regarding the severed diplomatic ties due to her statements. In a message posted on the social media platform X, Kallas stated, “Dear Gedeon, as you know, the European Union and Israel share many bonds. I value dialogue and engagement, and I am ready to continue this path respectfully and constructively.”
She added, “Dialogue is the cornerstone of diplomacy, especially when disagreements arise. The European Union has always been committed to maintaining a constructive relationship with Israel.”
The EU’s foreign policy chief emphasized that “for peace in the Middle East, the two-state solution remains the only viable path.” She further reiterated that the European Union condemns Israel’s illegal settlements in the West Bank, as these actions make achieving this objective increasingly difficult with each passing day. “This is the European Union’s position,” Kallas concluded.
