US Imposes Sanctions on Lebanese Officials Tied to Hezbollah

The U.S. Department of State announced new sanctions against Lebanese officials for their alleged alliance with Hezbollah, claiming these actions undermine the Lebanese government and its stability.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Department of State has imposed new sanctions on Lebanese officials deemed to be allied with Hezbollah. The move, detailed in a statement released by the State Department, aims to counter what Washington describes as the systematic weakening of governmental authority and the establishment of a parallel power structure by Hezbollah allies, which the U.S. asserts is detrimental to Lebanon.

The department further alleged that Hezbollah represents a significant obstacle to the reconstruction and improvement of Lebanon’s economic and social conditions. According to U.S. claims, Hezbollah has held the government captive in a state of perpetual conflict. The State Department asserted that for lasting peace in the region and to ensure Lebanon’s stability and prosperity, Hezbollah must disarm.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury also announced on Thursday the imposition of sanctions against Lebanese officials supporting Hezbollah, along with other individuals. The Treasury Department stated that these sanctions were enacted due to the targets’ actions in obstructing the path to peace and delaying the process of Hezbollah’s disarmament. This marks not the first instance of the United States imposing sanctions on Lebanese officials perceived as supporters of Hezbollah, in what has been described as an interventionist move.
