Trump Reiterates Criticism of Italy on Iran Policy, Nuclear Threat

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has once again voiced criticism of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Trump stated that after substantial financial contributions to NATO, Italy and its prime minister are not contemplating measures to confront the Islamic Republic of Iran and the nation’s “very dangerous” nuclear threat.
He added, “Over the past decades, we have defended them, but when we are tested, no one defends us or the world. This is not good.”
These remarks from Trump come amid ongoing tensions and a crisis between the United States and Italy. Previously, Trump had threatened to withdraw U.S. forces from Italian bases, citing Rome’s insufficient support for Washington in the conflict against Iran. The Italian Minister of Defense had previously stated that the reasons for these threats were unclear. Meloni had also declared earlier, during the conflict against Iran, that the country would not deploy ground forces to the Middle East.
