Kremlin: US-Iran Dialogue Could Heal Global Economy, Denies BRICS Currency Plans

The Kremlin stated that while no formal agreement has been reached between the United States and Iran, an understanding has been signed, and further dialogue between the two nations could help mend global economic strains. Russia also refuted claims of BRICS nations developing an alternative currency to the U.S. dollar.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian Presidential Administration (Kremlin), announced on Monday that no agreement has yet been finalized between the United States and Iran. He clarified that a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two countries, representing a different level of commitment. Russia values the memorandum between the U.S. and Iran, as well as the mediation efforts by Pakistan and Qatar to de-escalate conflicts, stating that contacts between the U.S. and Iran could provide opportunities to heal wounds in the global economy.

Peskov further elaborated that discussions between Russia and the United States will continue. He noted that officials are prepared to listen to all parties involved in resolving the situation in Ukraine, which he deemed highly valuable. While the U.S. dollar’s share in international trade remains significant, Peskov acknowledged a noticeable downward trend. He dismissed reports suggesting that BRICS member states are formulating plans to establish a currency alternative to the dollar, asserting that BRICS cannot play a mediating role in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

He added that Russia places great importance on expanding its relations with India and developing new prospects for bilateral ties. Peskov described discussions in Europe about negotiating with Russia as a positive sign, emphasizing that the extent of European readiness for such dialogue needs to be determined before conversations can commence. He also indicated that there is no certainty that Russia and Europe would require a mediator for negotiations.
