Egypt Demands Full Israeli Withdrawal from Lebanon, Praises Border Deal

Egypt has welcomed the recent framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel, emphasizing the urgent need for a complete Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories and the extension of Lebanese government sovereignty across the entire country.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Egypt has lauded the recent framework agreement brokered between Lebanon and Israel, stressing the imperative for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese lands and the full assertion of Lebanese governmental sovereignty over its territory. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the recent agreement reached between Lebanon and the Israeli entity, which was facilitated by American mediation.

A statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the Lebanese Prime Minister briefed the Egyptian Foreign Minister on the specifics of the framework agreement.

Minister Shoukry, while expressing welcome for the accord, characterized it as a significant step and the commencement of a positive trajectory.

He further underscored the necessity for a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli entity from areas still under its occupation, thereby paving the way for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the establishment of government authority over all of the nation’s land.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of leveraging this development to achieve the complete withdrawal of the Israeli entity from southern Lebanon and to ensure the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

He reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Lebanese government and its policies aimed at enforcing sovereignty throughout the country, including the deployment of the Lebanese army in all regions and the consolidation of arms exclusively in the hands of the state. Minister Shoukry stated that these measures would contribute to bolstering security and stability in Lebanon.

Additionally, Shoukry emphasized the significance of sustained cooperation and coordination among Lebanon’s three highest sovereign institutions, noting that such coordination would help preserve national unity, strengthen the domestic position, empower the government to confront current challenges, and consolidate security, stability, and the preservation of state institutions.

In response, the Lebanese Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Egypt’s support to his country. Praising Cairo’s steadfast positions and backing for the Lebanese government and institutions, he affirmed his commitment to continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt on matters of mutual interest.
