US Eyes Shifting Military Bases to Israel Amid Iran Threat
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) is considering a proposal to move its military bases situated near Iran’s borders and the Persian Gulf to the occupied territories, as reported by Arabic 21, citing data from the Mehr News Agency.
The Hebrew-language website Walla reported that the U.S. Department of Defense is currently evaluating the transfer of both defensive and offensive military systems to the occupied territories. This assessment follows the U.S. military’s conclusion that its bases in the Persian Gulf are susceptible to Iranian strikes.
The Hebrew website’s report further suggests that this review could lead to an increased presence of American forces in the Middle East. The plan might involve expanding an existing air camp in the Negev region or establishing a full-scale airbase.
The report highlighted that during the height of tensions with Iran, the United States had deployed over 6,000 troops to the occupied territories, with some of these personnel stationed at the military bases of the Zionist regime’s army. These soldiers were reportedly engaged in the operation of air defense systems and the maintenance of American aircraft stationed at Israeli airfields. These aircraft had been moved from Persian Gulf countries to safeguard them from potential attacks by Iranian drones or short-range missiles.
Previously, The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, had reported that extensive damage to U.S. military bases in the Middle East had compelled the Pentagon to reconsider its complete troop presence and deployment strategy in the region.
These sources indicated that the U.S. military is currently exploring options for reconstructing a base in Bahrain and potentially reducing its presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, there are plans to relocate certain military facilities to areas further from the reach of Iranian missiles and drones, with the occupied territories being a likely candidate for such a move.
