Iranian Parliament Speaker Says U.S. Forced to Negotiate After Recent Conflict

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the United States was compelled to return to negotiations after being militarily stalled during a recent conflict, a sentiment echoed by Turkmenistan’s National Leader who praised Iran’s diplomatic approach.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, during a meeting with Turkmenistan’s National Leader and Chairman of the People’s Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, who was visiting Iran for the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf highlighted the nation’s ability to identify friends and foes in difficult times. Ghalibaf expressed gratitude for Turkmenistan’s consistent support, both during wartime and in the present era.

Ghalibaf emphasized the importance of expanding economic and border cooperation between the two countries, hoping for the finalization of the Iran-Turkmenistan border market. He described this joint market as a valuable cultural and economic opportunity. The speaker further indicated his commitment to pursuing closer ties with Turkmenistan in upcoming engagements, focusing on infrastructure, electricity, energy, and transportation sectors, while preparing to address existing challenges to facilitate the development of bilateral relations.

Addressing the recent conflict, Ghalibaf asserted that Iran’s military forces, guided by the directives of the martyred leader, successfully immobilized American forces, leaving them with no alternative but to return to the negotiation table and accept the Islamic Republic of Iran’s demands. He affirmed Iran’s adherence to the 14 points of understanding previously reached and its insistence on their complete implementation, warning of a firm response should the opposing party act otherwise.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, in turn, conveyed his condolences to the Iranian nation and expressed warm, friendly sentiments towards Ghalibaf, acknowledging him as an old friend and a figure close to the Turkmen government and people. He stressed the need to increase commercial exchanges and highlighted the existing strong cooperation in water, electricity, and gas sectors. Berdimuhamedow also mentioned productive discussions with the Iranian President concerning significant global projects.

Commemorating the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Berdimuhamedow described him as a distinguished personality who viewed the people of Turkmenistan not just as neighbors but as kin. He recalled valuable memories from personal meetings, noting the leader’s consistent warmth and affection. Berdimuhamedow lauded the Islamic Republic of Iran’s diplomatic approach, contrasting it with perceived philosophies elsewhere and stating that Iran’s patient and prudent conduct has clarified where right and justice lie, expressing confidence in Iran’s future negotiation successes.
