According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the funeral and farewell ceremony for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran garnered significant attention from international media. As the procession to bid farewell to Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei commenced in Tehran, foreign news outlets extensively covered the event, featuring real-time reports, images, videos, and numerous analyses, positioning it at the forefront of their international news coverage.

Turkish media, including Anadolu Agency, TRT, national newspapers, and online news sites, focused on the presence of heads of state and high-ranking foreign delegations. They described the ceremony as one of the most significant political and diplomatic events in the region. A considerable portion of the analyses published by Turkish media delved into the regional implications of the ceremony, the future of Iran’s relations with neighboring countries, and its impact on developments in the Middle East. Concurrently, images and news related to the ceremony were widely shared on Turkish social media and news platforms, with many outlets dedicating live, moment-by-moment coverage to the event.

Reuters, in a news report, noted the official commencement of the multi-day funeral for the martyred leader of the Revolution and the substantial attendance of foreign officials and leaders. The report detailed Iran’s plans and arrangements for a grand farewell to the martyred leader. A portion of the Reuters report stated that Ayatollah Khamenei’s martyrdom following an enemy attack “falls within a powerful Shiite tradition of martyrdom and mourning, a tradition in which mourners grieve through chest-beating and chain-whipping.” Reuters further observed, “This potent symbolism has been evident since the death of Iran’s leader, seen in the black mourning flags hung over the city streets, flags that allude to the martyrdom of the third Shiite Imam, Hussein ibn Ali.”

Xinhua, in its report, highlighted the start of the funeral ceremony for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran. The ceremony, held on Friday at the Imam Khomeini Grand Prayer Hall, saw a massive turnout of people and high-ranking foreign delegations. According to Xinhua, a large crowd gathered from the early morning hours to bid farewell to the late leader of the Islamic Revolution. The report added that officials and representatives from over 100 countries were present at the event, including heads of state, parliament speakers, foreign ministers, special envoys, and political figures from various parts of the world who traveled to Tehran to pay their respects.

Xinhua quoted a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who described the ceremony as a historic and significant event. The news agency reported that the extensive presence of foreign delegations reflected the international standing of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution and the global importance of the ceremony. The report also mentioned that some public places in Tehran were temporarily closed, and special measures were implemented to manage the large attendance of people and foreign guests for the dignified conduct of the ceremony.

Some Chinese media outlets characterized the ceremony as a symbol of the unity and strength of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while others deemed it one of the most significant political and religious events of the year in the region. CGTN, affiliated with China Central Radio and Television, described the funeral as one of the most important events in the history of the Islamic Republic, held with the widespread participation of the people, religious figures, and foreign delegations. China Daily and Global Times referenced the attendance of officials and envoys from more than 30 countries, including China, and described it as an indicator of the event’s international significance from the perspective of Iran’s foreign relations. EuroNews also reported that Iran hosted dozens of foreign leaders at the funeral ceremony for [Ayatollah] Khamenei, with no Western presence.
