Karbala Prepares Grand Funeral for Martyred Leader, Iraq Mobilizes Transport

The holy city of Karbala is making extensive preparations to host a grand funeral ceremony for Iran’s martyred leader, with the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office ordering the provision of buses to transport mourners. The procession is expected to draw millions and will span across Najaf and Karbala.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qassem Al-Issari, head of the Karbala Governorate Council, announced that all necessary measures have been taken in the province to facilitate a magnificent funeral ceremony for Iran‘s martyred leader. This statement follows earlier directives from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office.

The Prime Minister’s office had previously instructed all administrative units and ministries to arrange buses for the transportation of participants attending the funeral of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution. This directive mandates the allocation of buses with capacities ranging from 11 to 50 passengers to convey mourners to the funeral events scheduled in the holy provinces of Najaf and Karbala.

The Supreme Committee for Organizing the Funeral of the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq announced on Thursday that the ceremonies for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei (may God have mercy on him) will take place in the holy provinces of Najaf and Karbala. A massive public turnout, estimated in the millions, is anticipated for these events.

Iraqi officials have stated that the body of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei is scheduled to be transferred from Qom to Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf International Airport on July 8 (Wednesday, July 17, 2026). Following this, the body will be taken to the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) for funeral rites and a farewell ceremony.

Subsequently, the body will be moved to Karbala for a grand public procession between the holy shrines of Al-Abbas (peace be upon him) and Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). After being taken to the shrines of Al-Abbas and Imam Hussein, it will return to Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Airport for transfer to the holy city of Mashhad for burial in the shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him).
