Iraqi Prime Minister to Visit Tehran Amid Iran-US Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing Al-Shafaq News which obtained information from informed sources, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi intends to travel to Tehran this weekend. These sources indicated that Al-Zaidi’s upcoming trip to the Iranian capital is part of Iraq’s diplomatic efforts to bolster Baghdad’s role in mitigating regional tensions.

Al-Zaidi is expected to bring an Iraqi proposal focused on helping to end the ongoing military friction between Iran and the United States, and to open channels for dialogue between the two nations. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that Al-Zaidi presented this concept during his meeting last week with United States President Donald Trump in Washington D.C. The American side reportedly welcomed and supported the idea as a step that could help contain the crisis and prevent further escalation of conflict.

The sources further added that during his visit to Tehran, Al-Zaidi will propose Baghdad hosting a summit in the near future involving officials from Iran and the United States. The objective of such a meeting would be to bridge differing viewpoints and pave the way for direct or indirect discussions between the two parties, within the framework of Iraq’s efforts to reduce tensions and avert further escalation that could have repercussions for regional security and stability.

Al-Zaidi and his delegation concluded a five-day visit to the United States yesterday. He traveled to Qatar today. Following his trip to Iran, the Iraqi Prime Minister is scheduled to embark on a regional tour that includes Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Syria.
