German Chancellor Calls for End to War Against Iran to Lower Energy Prices

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated in an interview with ARD television network that the high cost of energy cannot be resolved through subsidies. Germany requires substantial amounts of affordable energy and sufficient storage capacity. Current high energy prices are burdening both consumers and businesses.

Merz emphasized that oil prices are currently 50% higher than a year ago, and a $100 per barrel oil price cannot be compensated for in Germany through subsidies.

He added that efforts could be made to end the war against Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Reopening the Strait of Hormuz would result in an immediate reduction in prices across energy markets, including in Germany.
