Pentagon Seeks $18 Billion for US Missile Replenishment Amid Iran Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Pentagon has submitted an emergency funding request of $67 billion for the current fiscal year, with a significant portion designated for replenishing U.S. missiles. Documents presented to Congress reveal that $18.2 billion is sought to replace American missiles used in the conflict with Iran, encompassing Patriot missiles, Navy Tomahawk cruise missiles, and the Army’s THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) interceptor system.
The data indicates that over $8 billion is earmarked for the procurement of three interceptor missile models from RTX for the Navy. These figures are detailed in documents prepared by the Pentagon and sent to the defense committees in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, amplifying concerns over the status of U.S. arms stockpiles. This development occurs as U.S. forces continue to conduct strikes against Iran and counter drone and missile attacks on American bases in the region.
In written testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee on July 21, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Haggett stated that the funding request includes $21 billion to accelerate the acquisition of advanced missiles and new, low-cost munitions yet to be purchased. These acquisitions are set to include long-range, GPS-guided JDAM bombs and new ground-launched “low-cost container munitions.”
Of the $18.2 billion for key weapons, $5.75 billion is allocated for Lockheed Martin’s THAAD interceptor missiles, and $5.57 billion is designated for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) missiles. An additional $1.9 billion is set aside for the Navy and Army’s Standard Missile-6 (SM-6).
Other expenditures include $1.3 billion for Tomahawk cruise missiles (manufactured by RTX), $1 billion for the SM-3 Block IIA naval interceptor, $992 million for Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), and $692 million for Lockheed’s Precision Strike Missile, which was reportedly used for the first time in Iran.
