Germany Investigates Second Suspected Power Grid Attack

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German police have announced that a power substation in the vicinity of Cologne was targeted in a suspected act of sabotage. A police spokesperson indicated that, given the current state of the investigation, the incident was not a technical malfunction and is likely the result of intentional criminal activity. The event occurred on Tuesday evening in the Rhein-Erft district, where a short circuit caused several power transmission lines to go offline, though public electricity supply to the region was not interrupted.

Amprion, the electricity transmission company, confirmed the incident near the Rommerskirchen substation, stating that equipment related to power plant feeder lines was damaged. However, the company emphasized that grid stability was maintained throughout the period. This event follows closely on the heels of another alleged act of sabotage against the power facilities of a major power plant in Brandenburg just one day prior. German officials reported that unknown individuals used projectile tools to cause a short circuit on a high-voltage line near the Jänschwalde power plant.

Additionally, an explosion occurred on Wednesday at the Augsburg train station, resulting in minor injuries to at least two individuals. The cause of this explosion remains undetermined, and explosives experts are currently examining the scene. Police have not yet established any connection between these three incidents, and investigations into the perpetrators and their potential motives are ongoing.
