US Central Command Investigates Civilian Casualties in Iran’s Sirik Incident

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. officials have informed the publication Axios that the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is undertaking an internal investigation into an incident that led to civilian deaths in Kohastek, Iran. The report, citing Al Jazeera and Mehr News Agency, details that the attack targeted a telecommunications tower in Kohastek, a district within the Sirik County of Hormozgan Province, which was utilized for both civilian and military purposes.

Axios’s report emerges as Reuters also published investigative findings concerning a deadly strike on a wedding ceremony in the Kohastek area. Analysis of verified images and videos by four weapons experts suggests that the munitions impacting the venue were likely American-made. These experts were provided with incident footage to ascertain the origin of the ordnance.

Three of the four military weapons specialists concluded that the munitions used were of American origin, differing from the notion of an Iranian air defense loitering munition. Their assessment, based on the shape of the crater, the explosion pattern, and the nature of the damage, indicated a higher probability of direct munition impact on the building.
