UK Prime Minister Vows Stronger Action Against Israeli Settlements

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced intensified measures against Israeli settlements in the West Bank, condemning the current Israeli government’s policies and the suffering of Palestinians. The move comes amid escalating tensions and retaliatory actions from Israel.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has affirmed that robust measures will be implemented against illegal settlements established by the Israeli regime in the West Bank. He stated that these actions are specifically targeted at the unacceptable policies of the current Israeli administration.

Burnham characterized the suffering of Palestinians as a stain on the global conscience, asserting that the British government will not remain silent in the face of this hardship in Gaza and the diminishing prospects for a two-state solution. He acknowledged a previous hesitation in taking such steps, stemming from concerns about being falsely accused of antisemitism.

The situation escalated following the UK‘s decision to ban goods produced in Israeli settlements. In response, Israel announced the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem and barred entry to twelve British officials into occupied territories.

Israeli Foreign Minister G Gideon Sa’ar described the UK’s decision as “foolish” and accused the Labour government of “promoting antisemitism.” Opposition leader Yair Lapid deemed the British move a “major mistake” and attributed Israel’s “unprecedented diplomatic isolation” to the Netanyahu administration.

The United Kingdom had previously announced its decision on Tuesday to prohibit trade in goods manufactured within Zionist settlements in the occupied West Bank.

It is noteworthy that despite these official stances, the UK and other Western nations are considered primary supporters of the Israeli regime’s actions in Gaza, notably through the provision of weaponry.
