BRICS Summit Adopts Delhi Declaration, Calls for Israeli Withdrawal from Lebanon
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the leaders of BRICS member states, in the ‘Delhi Declaration,’ expressed opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, emphasizing their support for the rights of the Palestinian people. They also called for adherence to a ceasefire in Lebanon, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas of Lebanon.
The BRICS leaders unanimously adopted the ‘Delhi Declaration’ on Saturday, the first day of the group’s 18th summit in New Delhi. In their declaration, they voiced deep concern over the ongoing violence in Gaza and urged an end to any policies aimed at the forced displacement of Palestinians from the region.
The declaration stated that a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through peaceful means, and that the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination and return, must be realized. BRICS leaders also expressed concern over actions that could undermine Palestinian rights or legitimize and prolong the occupation.
BRICS members also reaffirmed their commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria, calling on all parties to support a peaceful and inclusive political process in the country.
Regarding Lebanon, members welcomed the ceasefire and called for full adherence by all parties to its terms and the complete implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. They condemned the continued violation of the ceasefire, Lebanon’s sovereignty, and territorial integrity, urging Israel to abide by agreements made with the Lebanese government and to withdraw its forces from all remaining areas within Lebanese territory.
The BRICS declaration also stressed the necessity of preventing conflicts and peacefully resolving crises amid ongoing wars in Iran and Ukraine. The group urged the international community to utilize political and diplomatic tools to reduce the potential for conflict and address the root causes of crises.
BRICS members also expressed concern about the increasing risk of nuclear conflict, emphasizing disarmament, arms control, and the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation. They condemned deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, highlighting the importance of maintaining nuclear safety and security even during armed conflicts.
In another section of the declaration, BRICS members opposed unilateral, punitive, discriminatory, and protectionist measures that contravene international law and underscored the fight against terrorism in all its forms.
The group’s leaders also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Sudan, calling for an immediate and lasting ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
The 18th BRICS summit is being held in New Delhi on September 12-13, under the chairmanship of India, and will address topics including the reform of global governance, economic and trade cooperation, energy and food security, technology, and regional and international crises.
