Israeli Prisons Hold 9,350 Palestinian Detainees, Including 350 Children
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups have reported that the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons reached 9,350 as of the beginning of September 2026. This figure includes approximately 90 women and more than 350 children. The data was jointly released by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, the Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights, and the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
The report further details that 3,176 individuals are currently held under administrative detention, a measure allowing for arrest and detention without charge. An additional 1,393 detainees are classified by Israel as ‘illegal combatants’. The organizations clarified that this latter figure does not encompass all Gaza Strip detainees held in facilities managed by the Israeli army and categorized within this group.
The announced figures also include Palestinian Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria. Regarding child detainees, the organizations highlighted that over 350 Palestinian children are being held in the Megiddo and Ofer prisons. Concurrently, approximately 90 women are incarcerated. This situation arises amidst reports from various Palestinian and Israeli human rights bodies alleging that prisoners within Israeli facilities face torture, starvation, and medical neglect, conditions that have reportedly led to the deaths of dozens of individuals.
