Oman’s Foreign Minister Advocates for Political Resolution to Yemen Crisis
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, announced that the country opposes the use of force and interference in the internal affairs of other nations. He reaffirmed Oman’s support for finding a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
Albusaidi stated that escalating tensions currently threaten the security of regional countries and disrupt shipping and trade through the Strait of Hormuz. He further elaborated that disruptions in shipping via the Strait of Hormuz affect energy security and price stability.
The Omani Foreign Minister stressed, “Oman will continue its efforts to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” adding that these efforts are based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. He called on all parties to cooperate with Muscat in safeguarding the interests of nations reliant on passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
He also urged relevant parties to resolve their disputes through restraint, dialogue, and the attainment of political solutions. The Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s opposition to the ongoing attacks by the Israeli regime targeting several Arab countries and called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders to achieve a two-state solution.
Furthermore, he announced Oman’s solidarity with the actions of neighboring countries, including members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, in protecting their security and sovereignty. In another part of his remarks, the Omani Foreign Minister called on all Yemeni parties to cooperate and engage positively in the resolution process to reach a solution for the country’s crisis.
He concluded by stating that the solution to the Yemen crisis must guarantee the country’s stable relations with its neighboring countries and the region.
