US and Israel Express Strong Support for Lebanese Ambassador Amidst Legal Challenge

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an Israeli newspaper, The Jerusalem Post, has reported that a legal complaint lodged by Lebanese lawyer Hassan Adel Bizri against Nadi Hammadeh Mwaoud, the Lebanese Ambassador in Washington, has been referred by the Lebanese Public Prosecutor to the State Commissioner at the Military Court for review of potential legal actions. The extent to which this complaint will lead to prosecution or its closure remains unclear.
The Jerusalem Post noted that this case has generated concerns in Tel Aviv, suggesting the complaint is an attempt to intimidate officials involved in normalization talks between Lebanon and the Israeli regime. Such actions could complicate diplomatic efforts between the two nations amidst political and security tensions in Lebanon.
Separately, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State confirmed to Al Arabiya network that Washington is aware of the complaint filed by a lawyer described as a supporter of Hezbollah against Nadi Hammadeh Mwaoud. The spokesperson offered unequivocal support for the Lebanese government official engaged in normalization talks with the Israeli regime, calling the military court’s review of the complaint against the Lebanese Ambassador in Washington “shameful.” The spokesperson asserted that the Lebanese military judiciary should allocate its limited resources to pursuing Hezbollah elements plotting against the Lebanese government and people, rather than prosecuting those working in Lebanon’s interest.
The U.S. State Department spokesperson explicitly intervened in Lebanon’s internal judicial affairs, stating that laws and procedures allowing for such political trials must be abolished. Washington, the spokesperson added, has no further patience for such obstructions.
Earlier, Israel’s Channel Kan, citing Arab sources, reported that Nadi Abd Hammadeh Mwaoud, the Lebanese Ambassador to the United States, had contacted Yishai Malka, the Israeli Ambassador in Washington, after Malka’s son was injured in a ramming attack in occupied territories. Mwaoud reportedly condemned the operation and expressed sympathy to the Israeli Ambassador.
This development occurs while, under the Lebanese constitution, the Israeli regime is considered a hostile entity, and any direct contact or communication with its officials is subject to legal prosecution.
