Trump Alleges Iran Manipulating Oil Prices, Cites Strait of Hormuz Activity

President Donald Trump has accused Iran of attempting to inflate oil prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, while also raising claims about Iranian activities in the Strait of Hormuz. This comes as Brent crude oil prices have seen a notable increase.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is exerting significant effort to drive up oil prices in anticipation of the upcoming American midterm elections. This assertion was reported by Al Jazeera, citing data from Mehr News Agency.

In contrast to these claims, data from the analytical website OilPrice indicates that the price of a barrel of Brent crude oil reached $111.23 at 00:45 AM U.S. Central Time on Thursday, October 21, 2026. This represents an increase of $2.41 from its baseline price.

President Trump also alleged that Iran is making statements regarding explosions and mines in the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that the volume of oil transported through the strait currently exceeds pre-war levels. The U.S. President reiterated his long-standing criticisms of the Iranian government, stating that protesters are being targeted. He expressed his hope that the American public and the world would recognize the “malevolence” of the current system in Iran, having not achieved his primary objectives during what he described as a campaign against the nation.
