Germany Seeks Dialogue with Tehran, Calls for De-escalation in Yemen and Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has urged Iran to engage in negotiations and called for an end to conflicts in Yemen and Ukraine, emphasizing the need for all parties to de-escalate their military actions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called for an end to the conflicts in Yemen and Ukraine, alongside urging Tehran to participate in dialogue. The senior German official stated that Iran should be present at the negotiation table, Yemeni forces should cease their attacks, and Moscow should reduce its offensive actions. Previously, Baerbock had also called on Iran to set aside maximalist demands, demonstrate genuine commitment to diplomatic solutions, and emphasize the importance of safeguarding maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Berlin, in coordination with its European partners and regional allies, has been actively pursuing new diplomatic initiatives over recent months to protect shipping routes in the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, and the Black Sea. On October 23, 2026, a quadripartite meeting of the foreign ministers of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy, along with representatives from Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, was held in Istanbul. The agenda included examining strategies to reduce tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and the Black Sea. During the meeting, the German Foreign Minister reiterated the call for a halt to hostilities in Yemen and for Iran’s participation in negotiations, while also accusing Moscow of jeopardizing freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.

These developments occur against a backdrop of escalating tensions in West Asia and Eastern Europe, primarily attributed to the United States’ incursions into Iranian territory, Saudi Arabia’s military operations in Yemen, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) eastward expansion towards Russia’s borders.
