Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Affirms Ottawa Will Not Alter Policies Due to Donald Trump

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that his administration will not change its policies out of fear of U.S. President Donald Trump and is prepared to wait for the next U.S. administration if a favorable trade agreement cannot be reached.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that if a suitable trade deal cannot be negotiated with President Donald Trump, Ottawa may wait until the next United States president takes office.

He added that Canadian citizens are weary of political tensions with the United States and emphasized that his government will not sign any agreement that fails to safeguard Canada’s national interests.

Carney further noted that his country is actively expanding its economic options by partnering with European allies and free-market economies, stressing that Ottawa will never alter its strategic approach out of concern for potential reactions from Donald Trump.

These remarks follow a deadlock in bilateral negotiations last August and the outbreak of a tariff dispute between the two neighboring nations. Previously, President Trump had adopted aggressive stances regarding Canada, at one point suggesting that the country should be absorbed into the United States as a new state.
