report Mehr News Agency, citing Tass, the European Union has announced that it is going to impose new sanctions against Russia and will pursue negotiations regarding aid to Ukraine, the situation in Gaza and Georgia.
According to a European source, EU ministers will approve the first blacklist under the new sanctions on Monday.
Also, the conflicts in Ukraine and the war in Gaza will once again be the focus of the meeting of the 27 foreign ministers of the European Union in Brussels. A senior EU official told reporters earlier in Brussels that the EU’s foreign ministers will discuss the need to urgently send military aid to Ukraine, especially ammunition and air defense systems.
Regarding the developments in West Asia, this diplomat also said that the European ministers will discuss the deterioration of the situation in Rafah, and the foreign ministers will discuss with their colleagues from the “five” Arab countries. including Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will have an informal exchange of views.
Furthermore, the situation regarding the “law of foreign agents” in Georgia will also be on the agenda of the European Union. As this European diplomat said, the goal of Brussels is not to punish Tbilisi by sanctioning the Georgian government, but rather to tell the Georgian government that the adoption of the “Law on Foreign Agents” in Georgia is in conflict with the country’s membership process in the European Union.
It was said at the EU foreign ministers’ meeting that foreign ministers are also expected to impose new sanctions against Russia. Sanctions that are likely to target natural and legal persons responsible in Russia. According to a European source, EU ministers will review and approve the first blacklist for Russia sanctions on Monday.
Also yesterday, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz announced that Berlin is against Ukraine’s attack on Russian territory with western weapons. The German chancellor said in this regard that he is against giving Ukraine the opportunity to attack Russia with western weapons.
Shultz further added: Weapons received from Western allies should not be used to attack Russia. There are clear rules for the use of weapons provided by Berlin, which have been agreed with the Ukrainian authorities.
Olaf Schultz noted: At least that’s my position. Berlin’s goal in this situation is to prevent the current conflict from turning into a world war and not to contribute to the escalation of tension.
The positions of German Chancellor Olaf Schultz are raised while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with the Economist newspaper, asked the member states of this military alliance to limit cancel the laws imposed on the use of weapons sent to Ukraine in the attack on Russian territory. He also reiterated NATO’s position of not sending troops from this US-led military alliance to Ukraine or expanding the defense umbrella of this alliance, once again claiming that NATO will not be a party to this war.
He urged NATO countries to provide more weapons and support to Ukraine and said: It is not too late for Ukraine’s victory. We should send more weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, including air defense systems and long-range weapons.
