North Korea’s Garbage Balloons, Pentagon Chief Says
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik called on North Korea to stop its campaign of launching debris balloons towards South Korea. This was reported by Yonhap Agency.
️ According to Yonhap, the joint statement of the defense ministers of the United States and South Korea during the meeting with their Japanese counterpart in Tokyo has been published. Shin Won-sik called the launch of the garbage balloon a threat to South Korea’s sovereignty and also a violation of the armistice agreement.
North Korea has launched hundreds of garbage balloons towards its southern neighbor in response to South Korea’s propaganda efforts, including handing out leaflets as well as broadcasting advertisements through loudspeakers near the border.
Earlier it was reported that some of the balloons launched by North Korea landed in the grounds of the presidential residence in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The presidential security spokesman said that “no chemical and biological threat” was discovered after the analysis.
