Armed attack in Nigeria with 14 dead
Armed Attack on Gold Mining Site in Nigeria’s Zamfara State Leaves 14 Miners Dead, Many Injured
The English section of the webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, reports that Nigerian media confirmed armed assailants attacked the “Gobirava chali” gold mining area in Zamfara State, located in the country’s northwest, resulting in the deaths of 14 miners and leaving numerous others injured.
This attack occurred as Nigeria claims to have long been combating assaults by armed and terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Kidnapping for ransom remains prevalent across various regions of Nigeria, especially in the north—despite kidnapping being punishable by death. Armed groups frequently target villages, schools, and travelers to extort payments. Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has banned ransom payments to armed groups in an effort to curb this escalating trend.
