U.S. News Site “Axios” Claims Washington Seeks Fourth Round of Talks with Iran
The American news website Axios, citing the U.S. President’s special envoy too West Asia, claimed that Washington is pursuing a fourth round of negotiations with Iran.
According to a report by the English section of “Webangah News Agency” quoting Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Axios reported statements by Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy to West Asia, confirming that Washington aims to hold a fourth round of talks with Tehran.
Axios quoted Witkoff as saying: “We are working toward holding the fourth round of talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program by the end of this week.” He also added that negotiations with Iran have been progressing positively.
The first round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington took place on April 12 in Muscat,followed by a second round on April 19 in Rome,Italy. The third round—attended by trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi—was held on April 26 in oman as part of efforts to reach a nuclear agreement with Iran.
The fourth round was initially scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed due to logistical issues. Badr al-Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign minister, announced via social media platform X: “Due to logistical reasons, we are rescheduling the meeting related to Iran-U.S. negotiations originally set for Saturday in Rome.” A new date will be announced once agreed upon by both sides.
Earlier reports from Axios suggested that Iranian and American negotiators were likely pursuing the fourth round later this week.**
