Zelensky and Trump discuss 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine war
Presidents of Ukraine and US Discuss Temporary Ceasefire Agreement in War with Russia
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, announced on Thursday that during a phone call with Donald Trump, the US President, he stated that a 30-day ceasefire could be a “real signal” of progress toward peace with russia and that Kyiv is ready to implement it immediately.
Zelenskyy made these remarks amid a three-day ceasefire declared by Vladimir Putin, the russian President, to mark the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. However,Zelenskyy dismissed this brief pause as meaningless, with both sides accusing each other of violating it.
In his nightly address, he said: “Ukraine is ready—today, right now—to establish a full 30-day ceasefire. But this ceasefire must be real. Thirty days that could initiate years of peace. A long and reliable ceasefire woudl be a real signal of progress toward peace.”
The Ukrainian President emphasized that russia must demonstrate its readiness to end the war by initiating an unconditional ceasefire.
The proposal for a 30-day ceasefire was initially suggested by the US in March, and Ukraine had agreed to it. however, Russia has stated that such an action would only be feasible if there were reliable mechanisms for monitoring and enforcement in place.
Zelenskyy also mentioned discussing with Trump an agreement being passed in Ukraine’s parliament concerning the exploitation of the country’s mineral resources and establishing a fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
