Swedish diplomat arrested in Stockholm on suspicion of espionage

According ‌to⁤ the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters,⁣ Swedish television SVT reported the arrest of a Swedish diplomat suspected‍ of⁤ espionage.

The Swedish Security Service, without disclosing details, stated⁣ that the diplomat was arrested during an operation ⁣in Stockholm in recent days.

SVT reported that the suspect had held positions⁣ at several embassies worldwide, and⁤ their case is currently being ​handled by ‌the National Security Unit at Sweden’s ‌Prosecution Authority.

SVT added that Swedish authorities have expressed growing concern in recent years over⁤ escalating threats ‍from what ‍they describe as “foreign powers, including⁢ Russia, China, and Iran,” as well as⁤ groups involved in violent acts, hybrid ⁣warfare, and espionage‌ activities.
