Erdogan lifting sanctions on Syria is a historic move
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan—who participated virtually in a joint meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump,Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Abu Mohammad al-Julani—said Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria holds historic importance.
He added that the U.S. decision to remove sanctions against Syria will serve as a model for other countries that have imposed sanctions on damascus.
Erdoğan further stated that Ankara will continue supporting damascus against terrorist groups, especially ISIS terrorists.
This claim comes as Abu Mohammad al-Julani—who changed his name after gaining control over Damascus—was the leader of the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra, which split from ISIS. Many countries, including the U.S., had designated him and his affiliated faction as terrorist entities.
The Turkish president also addressed the situation in Gaza during his remarks, emphasizing that it is time for the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza to end.
