Zelensky ready again for direct meeting with Putin
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, the spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared for direct talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s remarks come as Zelenskyy said today in a speech: “I was ready to meet Putin in Ankara or Istanbul to resolve all critical issues,but he agreed to nothing.”
Zelenskyy added: “Ukraine is ready to do whatever it takes to end the war, and I call on Putin to grant real authority to his country’s negotiating team.”
The Ukrainian president also stated after a phone call with his American counterpart, Donald Trump: “Ukraine is prepared to take swift measures to achieve peace.”
Zelenskyy further emphasized: “If Russia refuses a ceasefire, it must face severe sanctions. Pressure on Russia must continue until it agrees to end the war.”
These developments coincide with Ukrainian and Russian negotiation teams meeting and holding talks today, Friday, in Istanbul, Turkey.
