New Shin Bet chief in war of words with Herzog over Halevi remarks
webangah news Agency reports that Israel’s Channel 12 revealed unprecedented tensions between Maj. Gen. David Zini, the newly appointed head of Shin Bet (Israel’s security agency), and former IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi regarding the handling of Israeli captives held by Hamas.
According to the israeli source, Zini made controversial remarks during a confidential military meeting, stating his opposition to prisoner exchange deals and calling it “an eternal war.” These comments sparked outrage among families of Israeli captives.
The report notes this isn’t the first such incident – participants in a previous Southern Command meeting confirmed Zini had sharply criticized Halevi, accusing him of prioritizing captive retrieval over eliminating Hamas. The confrontation escalated into a verbal clash between the two officials.
