Öcalan Officially Declares End to PKK Armed Operations

Leader ‍of defunct PKK ⁣officially⁣ announces end to group’s armed activities.

Abdullah Öcalan, leader ⁤of the disbanded Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), declared ​in a video ‍message‌ that ⁢the ‍group will “quickly” lay down its arms. “Our armed struggle⁣ has ⁣voluntarily come to an end,” he stated, according⁢ to a report‍ by webangah News Agency⁤ citing Al Jazeera.

Öcalan added: “Appropriate methods for disarmament will be determined. We have transitioned to a legal adn political phase – this marks a historic ⁣victory.”

The PKK leader emphasized that forming a parliamentary commission in​ Turkey to oversee voluntary, legal disarmament represents a crucial​ step forward.

This⁤ follows Öcalan’s earlier statement ‌calling for the dissolution and disarmament of the ​armed ⁢group, wich had sparked widespread reactions.
