Ryabkov: No BRICS Member Seeks to Replace the Dollar
According to webangah News Agency, Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said on Saturday that no member of BRICS is aiming to replace the US dollar. He added that anyone claiming or else seeks only to apply political and psychological pressure on BRICS members.
Ryabkov further stated that Moscow conducts over 90 percent of its payments with BRICS partners in national currencies.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump referred to his previous threat of imposing a 10 percent tariff on the BRICS group and claimed that as then, BRICS has been rapidly fading away.
During a bill-signing ceremony regulating digital currencies, Trump said: “You know that small group called BRICS? Thay’re rapidly disappearing! They intended to challenge the position of the dollar and its dominance as a benchmark. I told them any contry in the BRICS consortium would face our 10 percent tariff. The next day they held a meeting-and barely anyone showed up!”
