Riot in Mexican Prison Leaves at Least 18 Dead and Injured
At least 18 inmates were killed and injured following a riot at a prison in Mexico.
A riot at a prison in Mexico left at least seven inmates dead and 11 injured, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Xinhua.
The Public Security Department of Veracruz state announced that operations at the Tuxpan penitentiary, located in southern Mexico, returned to normal around 9 a.m. after coordinated efforts by law enforcement and judicial officials.
Authorities reported the unrest began on Saturday, wiht multiple fires inside the prison building subsequently extinguished.
Officials added that three prisoners involved in the riot have been transferred to another facility.The cause of the incident remains unknown.
