U.S. and Turkey Discuss Ukraine and Gaza Crisis
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency and Sputnik, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said he held discussions with Steve Witkoff, former special envoy of U.S.President Donald Trump, and Rustem Umurov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security council.
Fidan also spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio about security guarantees for Ukraine and Turkey’s role in this process.
He emphasized that Turkey remains hopeful for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine.
A source at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Sputnik that during talks with Rubio on Ukraine’s situation, Fidan expressed Turkey’s readiness to fulfill its commitments in the peace process.
Earlier, Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay announced the possibility that Turkey could host a potential bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.Oktay highlighted efforts by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine, noting that a meeting between Zelensky and Putin might take place in Istanbul.”Why not?” he said.
Erdoğan has repeatedly declared his willingness to advance peace efforts over Ukraine and organize possible negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian leaders.
Turkey previously hosted three rounds of negotiations between the two countries.
