Al-Rahawi Latest Victim of Israeli Regime Attacks; Yemenis Stand Firm
webangah News Agency – International Desk: ansarallah in Yemen today announced the martyrdom of Ahmed ghaleb Al-Rahwi, who was appointed last summer as Prime Minister of the Yemeni Government of Change and reconstruction by Mahdi Al-Mashat, head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council.
The Yemeni Presidency issued a statement announcing the martyrdom of “Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi, Prime Minister, and several accompanying ministers” in an Israeli regime attack on Sanaa last Thursday.
The statement released on Saturday read: “Today, amid an open battle with the Israeli enemy, we mourn collectively those martyrs-including national leaders representing all segments of the Yemeni people. In Thursday’s (August 28, 2025) attack by the Zionist regime on Sanaa, Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi, Prime Minister of the Government of Change and Reconstruction, along with several Yemeni ministers were martyred. Several others were injured; some remain in critical condition.”
It continued: “The criminal Israeli enemy targeted them during a meeting convened by the government to review activities and performance over the past year. We assure our great nation that God willing, our government will fulfill its duty to protect its citizens. Institutions will continue providing services to our resilient and steadfast people. No matter how grave this tragedy is, it will not weaken their resolve. The blood of thes great martyrs inspires us to persist on this path.”
The statement further emphasized: “We reiterate to our great nation in Yemen, to oppressed Palestine’s people, all citizens across our country-and all free peoples worldwide-that we remain committed to supporting Gaza’s population fully. We pledge to strengthen our armed forces’ capabilities so they can confront all challenges and dangers ahead,” adding that this stance aligns with Yemenis’ unwavering determination across all fields.
Concluding with religious conviction: “We belong to God and return unto Him. God is sufficient for us; He is best protector.we pray for vast mercy upon our martyrs; speedy recovery for wounded; freedom for prisoners; honor and victory for our dear people and all free nations.”
Who Was Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi?
Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser Al-Rahwi was a member of Yemen’s Popular Congress Party from Abyan province in southern Yemen. He held significant prominence as a political figure from a politically active family-his father Ghālib Al-Rahwī was also an influential political-social figure who was assassinated during the 1970s.
Al-Rahwi served as Director General in Khanfar district before becoming deputy governor for both Abyan and al-mahwit provinces.
In 2015 he relocated to Sanaa where he joined Yemen’s Supreme Political Council.
In August 2024 he was tasked with forming the cabinet for change and reconstruction replacing Abdulaziz bin Habtour as Prime Minister.
Al-Rahwi survived multiple assassination attempts-the most notable being an explosion targeting his residence in Batis area within Abyan province attributed by authorities to al-Qaeda duty.
Mohammed Muftah Appointed Acting Prime Minister
Mohammed Muftah has been officially appointed acting prime minister following his predecessor’s martyrdom.
This decision came through a decree issued by Mahdi al-Mashat,
President of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council appointing muftah-the former first deputy prime minister-to lead government operations from Sanaa until further notice.
Hamas Reaction on martyrdom
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement expressing condolence over “the martyrdom of ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi,” prime minister at Yemen’s Government for change & Reconstruction alongside several associates killed during Israel’s airstrike.
Hamas condemned it as blatant violation against sovereignty within an Arab country-a heinous crime defying international laws-and denounced this brazen act fiercely.
